Saina Nehwal is an Indian Khel Ratna. She is a right-handed badminton player, playing on behalf of India since 2003. In the rankings given by Badminton World Federation she holds the rank of number 2 in the world . She is ranked No.1 BWF Super Series Rankings.
Saina Nehwal's Life Story
Although Saina was born in a town in Haryana she was completely raised in Hyderabad. In that way she is a complete 'Hyderabadi'. Her influence for becoming a badminton player came from her family itself. Her father is Dr. Harvir Singh who is working as a scientist at the Directorate of Oilseeds Research, Hyderabad and her mother is Usha Nehwal. Both of whom were badminton state champions for Haryana.
From the age of 8 years, saina used to admire this sport so much that she used to wake up at 4:00am every morning and along with her father travelled 25kms to the Lal Bahadur Stadium where Coach Nina Prasad used to coach her.
As she grew step by step, she became better and better.She started playing international from the age of 13. She slowly started getting
Saina – First in India
1) She is the first Indian player to win the prestigious Asian Satellite Badminton tournament (India Chapter) twice
2) She is the First Indian woman to win a 4-star tournament, the Philippines Open.
3) Saina Nehwal is the first and only Indian woman till now to reach the singles quarterfinals at the Olympic games of Badminton.
4) Saina Nehwal won the World Junior Badminton Championships and stood as the first and the only Indian to do it .
5) Saina Nehwal is the first Indian to win a Super Series tournament, through Indonesia Open.
6) Saina Nehwal is the first Indian women to go till the semi finals of All-England Super Series-2010
